The Rhode Island National Guard said Friday that it is changing the date of this year’s Open House and Air Show to accommodate the USAF Thunderbirds.
The air show will take place at Quonset State Airport on June 20-21, which is a week earlier than originally announced.
The Thunderbirds are the Air Force’s premier demonstration squadron.
“The Rhode Island National Guard is looking forward to opening our gates to display the talents and capabilities of our amazing Airmen and Soldiers,” Lt. Col. Christopher N. Allen, a RING Open House director, said in a news release. “We also welcome the opportunity to host the fabulous military and civilian aerobatic acts. We can’t wait to see everyone for a safe and exciting Father’s Day weekend with the RING!”
The F-22 Raptor Demo Team was previously announced as the air show’s headliner. The National Guard said the group would not be appearing as a result of the rescheduling.
The National Guard said a list of performers will be released later.
The National Guard canceled last year’s air show because too many troops were deployed, leaving it short of the people needed to put on the event.
